ไม้ต้นขนาดกลาง สูง 4-13 เมตร ใบ เดี่ยว เรียงเวียนสลับ รูปไข่แกมรี กว้าง 5-20 ซม. ยาว 12-40 ซม. ปลายมนทู่ ขอบใบหยัก ห่างๆ เส้นใบขนานชัดเจน เนื้อใบสากหนา ก้านใบเป็นร่อง ยาว 2.5-6 ซม. ดอก สีเหลืองสด มักออกเดี่ยวหรือไม่เกินสองดอกบริเวณ ปลายกิ่ง ขนาดบานเต็มที่ กว้าง 10-13 ซม. กลีบรองดอกสีเขียว รูปไข่ มี 5 กลีบขนาดไม่เท่ากัน กลีบดอกรูปไข่กลับ บางและหลุดร่วงง่าย เกสรผู้จำนวนมาก แยกเป็น 2 ชั้น ปลายเกสรชั้นนอกจะงุ้มเข้า ปลายเกสรชั้นในจะชี้ออก ยอดเกสรเมียแผ่ออกเป็นวง ผล รูปทรงกลม อวบน้ำ ขนาด 3-5 ซม. ผลแก่ สีเหลืองอมส้ม
Deciduous tree, up to 13 m high. Leaves simple, alternate, ovate-elliptic, 12-40 cm long by 5-20 cm wide, parallel nerved; margin serrate; petiole 3-6 cm. Flowers yellow, 1 or 2 on twigs with several small bracts at the joint, 10-13 cm across; pedicel 5-12 cm; sepals oval, irregular, green; petals 5, ovate, easily loose; stamens many, arrange in 2 distinct groups, outer curved, inner reflexed at apex. Fruit orange-yellow, globular, indehiscent, 3-5 cm.

India to Southeast Asia. In deciduous, dry dipterocarp, and hill evergreen forests, at elevations of 200-1,100 m. Flowering from February to April fruiting from March and June.
ผลรับประทานได้ และ เป็นยาแก้ไข้หวัด
Wood is good to make tools. Fruits are edible and used to treat flu.
